About the Illustrator

Jinjer Markley illustrates emotionally rich children's art, mostly in traditional watercolor. She lives in Minneapolis, MN, and when She isn't drawing children, she's probably making tiny paintings or drawing flowers. She's also a big color nerd, and invented the Color Triangle because traditional color wheels just don't work.

Jinjer teaches drawing, watercolor and color theory classes at Wet Paint Art in Saint Paul, and watercolor and STEAM workshops and residencies as a COMPAS teaching artist

4 Facts About Me

01

I'm the eldest of 5 sisters, who are scattered around the world. From eldest to youngest, we live in: Minnesota,  Japan, Germany,  Colorado and North Carolina.

02

I have a Master's degree in Plant Biology and used to be a science teacher. I taught field trip science at theTech in San Jose, and Middle School science at a charter school in Saint Paul. I still substitute teach for math and science teachers when I have the time.

03

I am an obligate bicyclist. Bicycling is good for your health, good for the environment, and good for communities. When my kid got too big to easily carry around, I bought a bigger bike instead of a car.

04

I love cooking Japanese inspired food. If you invite me to a potluck, there is a high probability that I will bring onigiri. My favorite flavor so far is avocado tuna with cucumber, decorated with edible Borage flowers.
